Maintaining Battery Health: 7 Practical Tips
Smartphone batteries have a limited lifespan - typically 300 to 500 full charge cycles before capacity noticeably decreases. With the right habits, this time can be significantly extended.
1. Don't charge to 100% daily: Lithium batteries work most efficiently between 20 and 80%. Many newer iPhones and Samsung devices have an optimized charging option - make sure to activate it.
2. Avoid extreme heat: A hot car in summer can damage a battery more than a hundred charge cycles. At temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, chemical degradation accelerates considerably.
3. Wireless charging with care: Wireless charging generates more heat than wired charging. For overnight use, a regular cable is gentler on the battery.
4. No cheap charging cables: Inexpensive third-party cables without certification often deliver unstable voltage. This strains the battery in the long run. Use MFi-certified cables (Apple) or original USB-C cables.
5. Check battery health: On iPhone: Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Below 80% a replacement is recommended. On Android, the path varies by manufacturer.
6. Keep software up to date: Updates often improve energy management. An outdated system can unnecessarily drain the battery.
7. When is a replacement worthwhile: When the device unexpectedly shuts down even though battery is still shown, or when the charge level drops drastically within a few hours. A battery replacement at our shop starts at 39 euros - usually done in under an hour.
